The Book Series, Art Heals
The Art Heals series chronicles a journey in which art became both a lifeline and a means of transformation. Born from a life-altering injury, these volumes reflect some of the most challenging and meaningful moments of my life—where painting emerged not only as creative expression, but as a way to rebuild purpose, connection, and hope.
Each book weaves together personal stories, meaningful collaborations, and the evolving language of my abstract work, illustrating how art can hold emotions and experiences that words alone cannot fully express. What began as part of my own recovery became a deeper exploration of art’s power to heal, inspire, and connect us.
Through this series, I hope to invite viewers to engage with the work in their own personal way—to reflect, to feel freely, and to discover meaning that is uniquely their own. At the heart of Art Heals is my belief that art heals the mind, body, and spirit. It is the gift that was given to me, and one I am honored to share with others.
Art Heals, Volume 1
Art Heals, Volume 1, tells the story of my discovery of art’s healing power following a life-changing fall in 2016 that resulted in a brain and spinal cord injury, coma, and quadriplegia. During six months of recovery at Jefferson-Moss Magee Rehabilitation Hospital, I found joy and purpose through art therapy and painting.
This first volume features a thoughtful foreword by my friend and art coach, Bridgette Mayer, along with examples of my early work and reflections on the healing power of art.
Art Heals, Volume 2
Art Heals, Volume 2, highlights partnerships with Rowan University and Virtua Health, advancing my mission to show how art can heal and transform lives.
This volume also showcases the vibrant artwork displayed within these organizations, celebrating the role art can play in creating uplifting and healing environments.
Art Heals, Volume 3
Art Heals, Volume 3, shares my journey after another serious fall in July 2024 that resulted in a fractured hip and ribcage. Following rehabilitation at Jefferson Moss-Magee Rehabilitation Hospital, I challenged myself to return to painting and once again found strength and healing through art.
Art Heals, Volume 4
Art Heals, Volume 4, features a special collaboration with my dear friend and world-renowned glass artist Paul Stankard.
For more than 40 years, Paul Stankard has been a pioneer in the studio glass movement and is widely regarded as a master of paperweight art, with work represented in more than 70 museums worldwide.
In this volume, Paul offers a thoughtful exploration of my artistic journey, highlighting favorite works and reflecting on how my technique, vision, and inspiration have evolved over the past decade since my initial injury.
